> Apple's Siri AI Developer Preview lets any app expose actions and content through App Intents and 'skills'. It works only in dev builds and internal TestFlight until App Store submissions open in spring, and the terms are not yet published.

## TL;DR

- Starting with the **iOS 27.3** betas, any developer can expose app content and custom actions to Siri AI through **App Intents**.
- New **skills** teach Siri AI to combine several actions, but Apple says they **can't enforce deterministic execution**.
- Preview features work only in **development builds and internal TestFlight**. App Store submission opens in **spring**.
- Apple says terms and usage policies for Siri AI experiences will follow. **They haven't been published yet.**
- Siri AI is **unavailable in the EU** on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Server features have **daily limits**, with paid expanded access coming.

Apple has made the same move as other assistant platforms this year: it is letting third-party apps become tools for its agent. The difference is the pace. Developers can build now, but customers won't see these integrations for months, and Apple hasn't said what rules will govern them.

# What's open

Apple's [developer announcement](https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=gdk2umrf) says that starting with the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas, "any app" can bring its content and actions into Siri AI through App Intents. That includes actions outside Apple's existing schemas, "from checking a delivery to booking a reservation to placing an order." Siri AI can also surface any entity in the Spotlight semantic index. Apple's own apps, from Calendar and Mail to Safari and Weather, are getting the same capabilities.

For multi-step requests, Apple is introducing "skills". [ByteForward](https://bytefwd.com/apple-siri-ai-app-intents-developer-preview/) reports that these are Markdown files in an Xcode bundle and support a subset of the Agent Skills format. It also reports that Apple's documentation says skills can't enforce deterministic execution, and Siri won't necessarily run each listed tool in order. ByteForward's practical advice is to keep consequential checks, such as purchase confirmation, inside the app.

Invocation depends on context. [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1025694/apple-siri-ai-third-party-apps) and [iThinkDifferent](https://www.ithinkdiff.com/siri-ai-developer-preview-third-party-apps/) report that users don't need to name the app when it is in the foreground, has a running Live Activity, or came up earlier in the Siri conversation. Background requests have to name it.

# What's not open yet

- **Distribution.** iThinkDifferent reports that preview features run only in development-signed builds and for internal TestFlight testers. External testers and App Store versions don't get them. Apple says the features first reach customers "in a few months", with App Store submission opening in the spring.
- **Rules.** Apple says it "will follow up with more details about the terms and usage policies for experiences enabled through Siri AI."
- **Reach.** Siri AI launches in six languages. Apple says it is unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS; iThinkDifferent adds that it is unavailable to users under 13. Server-backed features have daily limits, and "Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future."

# Our read

This is Apple's version of the agent platform shift: apps expose tools, and the assistant decides when to call them. For developers, the main open question is the unpublished terms. They will decide whether Siri sends users into your app or completes the task in a Siri card. Usage caps and a planned paid tier also show that Apple faces the same compute economics as everyone else; see [personal agents are running into the compute bill](/posts/2026-11-07-personal-agents-hit-the-compute-wall/). Build the integration now, and wait for the terms before planning a business around it. Related: [shopping agents stay inside the store](/posts/2026-10-31-shopping-agents-stay-inside-the-store/).
